Returning home from a trip to the valley, we rounded a curve and out of the corner of my eye I saw what I thought were pick-em-up trucks on the side of the road, and they were heading across the 2 lanes. I blinked and looked again to see a beautiful herd of elk standing there. Several cars were pulled over to the side of the road, more for safety than anything; but it gave all of us a chance to gawk at these beautiful and majestic creatures. Of course, they gawked back, decided we might be trouble and walked back down toward the river. We pulled over and from the car I was able to get these shots. The minute my hand went out the window, the main female whipped her head in my direction. I held my breath and clicked away. By the time they had wandered down away from us, I took a chance and got out of the car and carefully walked toward them, snapping as I went. Maybe some day I’ll have a fancy camera that will take nice, sharp, clear photos, but still I’m fairly pleased with my photos, and I like this presentation. Great capture! The best camera one can have is the one you have with you . . . the three view montage is wonderful.
I like the way to arranged the three photos in the collage. the cropping for each is quite effective, and the background you chose complements the photos perfectly.

These are great pictures – what a wonderful group to come across.
One of the things I most enjoy about this photography project is the real excitement of surprise finds.
I like the grouping and the colour – so what if the photo’s aren’t perfectly sharp? – there is beauty in softer images as well (In fact it’s the way many people see the world 😉

In my house we would title this post “Fast Food!” We “shoot” elk very differently around here, LOL 🙂 I think these look great; you could probably also run a soft focus filter over them to exaggerate the misty morning glow effect and camouflage the fact that they’re not as sharp as you wanted. I really like the panorama collage as well, and thanks so much for the link to the tutorial!
